a DocuSign alternative with nothing monthly.
DocuSign's cheapest plan commits you to $132 for a year you may not use. sign is $9 for 5 sends that never expire, and the first one is free.
the prices, as published
every figure below was read on the vendor's own pricing page in US dollars, first on August 13, 2026. the table was re-checked on August 26, 2026, and these rows were confirmed again that day: DocuSign, the Adobe free account, PandaDoc Free, Dropbox Sign, SignWell Free and SignWell Light, esignatures.com and eSignToday. the Signeasy Personal and Adobe Acrobat Standard rows were not re-checked on August 26, so they still carry their August 13 reading. the eSignToday figure comes from the vendor's own homepage copy read through a search result rather than a direct fetch of the page. per-unit numbers are our arithmetic on their published figures. vendors change prices; check the source before you rely on it.

one line in that table is worth reading twice. DocuSign's free account lets you sign your own documents and store them. sending a document to someone else for signature needs the free trial or a paid plan — docusign.com/free-account, checked August 26, 2026.
a figure we still will not print, because we could not verify it on the vendor's own page: DocuSign's month-to-month rate. blogs quote numbers for it. we only publish what we read at the source.
DocuSign's overage charges are published on their support pages, and we have since read them there. how much DocuSign actually costs works through the annual commitment, the allowance, the overage, and a year at 2 to 15 documents a month.
the difference that is not price
every tool in that table is built for the person sending. you place fields, they get tagged, the signer hunts for the yellow arrow. the thing that actually delays a signature is that the signer does not understand what they were sent.
sign opens the signing page with a plain-English summary of the document: who the parties are, what each side agrees to do, money, dates, how it ends. one idea per sentence, then the document itself. no account for the signer, no password, no marketing on that page.
the summary describes what the document says. it never calls a clause risky or unusual, never recommends anything, and is not legal advice. the document is what gets signed.
the signature itself is typed or drawn, and both are ordinary under ESIGN and UETA. is a typed signature legally binding in the US
where sign is the wrong choice
- you need several signers on one document. sign takes one signer per send today.
- you need templates, bulk send, Salesforce, or SOC 2 paperwork for procurement.
- you need field types beyond a signature and a date.
- your documents are larger than 20 MB, or are scans with no readable text.
if any of those is you, the incumbents are better and we would rather say so than take $9.
